Stepping stones in water v2
Stepping towards new horizons

TAO 2 is for people who want to deepen their coaching and team development skills. The participants are expected to attend the workshops, intervision groups and write a case study of a coaching or team development process using a TA concept. The TAO1 program is mandatory before attending TAO2.

Description workshops TAO2

  1. Coaching in fives: Using a TA frame of reference a five-step model of coaching is presented. The five steps are: contact, contract, problem definition, intervention plan and evaluation. The role and tasks of the coach in each step will be explored. Whatever the model used the most important success factor in coaching is your ability to maintain an OK-OK relationship, which will support the development of autonomy in the client. We will pay special attention to relationship management in coaching.
  2. Personality at work: Personality is developed on the basis of genetic influences and early experiences. Everyone has a certain unique combination of personality types, characterized by underlying needs, preferences for communication and management style. Knowledge of your personality types enables effective communication and focuses your interventions. Before the workshop the participants will complete a PCM personality profile, which will be used to illustrate the theory.
  3. Problem definition and interventions: Accelerated learning, defined as behavioural change, is the meta-goal of coaching. Key learning events that accelerate learning will be presented and linked to developmental stages of managers and professionals. Using various TA concepts we can create a picture of key issues for the client, which hold back change. During this workshop we will discuss various ways to prioritize key issues and practice interventions
  4. Structure and dynamics of teams: As a TA consultant, Berne focused on the boundaries between environment, membership and leadership to diagnose the dynamics within groups and organizations. In this workshop we will learn about the basic structure of teams and how boundary problems can cause dysfunctional dynamics. Goal is to explore specific interventions to increase the durability, effectiveness and efficiency within your group or organization.
  5. Team leadership and membership: People develop leadership and membership strategies based on successful problem solving behaviour in the past. Leadership is the art of getting things done. It is a relationship not a position. Membership challenges lie in the area of balancing belonging and autonomy. Through a series of practical exercises you will understand the dynamics between leadership and membership and develop your own style in a more effective manner.
  6. Team coaching and group process: The ability to create a coherent team out of a group of individuals is one of the core competencies of managers and consultants. We will present theories of group development and use these to better understand what roles and tasks are needed to create a high performance team. We will practice two forms of team coaching: coaching in the group and coaching through the group.
  7. Professional identity and ethics: To be a member of a helping profession requires the willing assumption of ethical responsibility and awareness of the social-cultural dimension in every dimension of practice. The helping professional enters a partnership of human experience where sharing moments in time, some trivial and some dramatic, leaves its mark forever on each participant. The willingness to enter with a client that predicament which he cannot face alone is an expression of moral responsibility. During this workshop we will focus on ethical dilemmas we may face as a TA coach and how to engage in continual reflective practice.

The case study is about the theory and application of a TA concept in your work with a coaching or consultancy client. The case study describes contact, contract, problem definition, intervention and results of your work with a client. It is 8-10 pages long and is due the pen-ultimate workshop. For more information: Case study TAO2

The intervision groups take place in between the workshops. Each group consists of 3 to 4 participants. Goal of the intervision groups is to work on assignments, discuss practical application of TA in your work and get coaching on your personal learning contract.
